Dr. Laura Krause, PsyD, LP
Licensed Psychologist
Find Your North is inspired by a bit of front porch wisdom passed down from my grandmother to my mother when she was a young adult. She encouraged my mother to “Look North - to what really matters” as a way of coping with worry. Unfortunately, my grandmother passed away before I was born but as I understand it, she was wise beyond her years. When I learned that story as a developing psychologist, its simple yet profound nature hit deep and now is woven into my practice.
While the idea sounds straightforward, as with most things in life, it can be complicated. You may be thinking:
-
“There’s no time for me to focus on that when I’m barely keeping my head afloat. I’m just pulled in too many directions.”
-
“I thought I was doing life well by checking off all the things I’m supposed to, so why don’t I feel happy or content?”
-
“No matter what I do, things never change.”
-
“I don’t think I’ve ever really had a sense of being grounded. I’m not sure what that would even feel like.”

As a licensed psychologist with over 12 years of experience, I have found that many factors tend to influence how people view and evaluate themselves. Not only do we have our own inner critic constantly chattering in our heads, we also have plenty of people and other sources telling us how to do life. If only we could just find the right treatment, relationship, job, lifestyle, etc. then life would be… (you fill in the blank).
Find Your North therapy practice offers the opportunity to quiet that noise and instead focus on the needs of your body, mind, and soul. If we can slow down, pay attention, and tune in, I believe our own inner wisdom holds important answers for finding wellness, joy, and peace in our lives.

This wisdom will be utilized in therapy to help identify practical skills to help you manage daily life and stress. It truly is a blend of
having a clear vision and accessible coping skills.

What Brings You Here?
Who I Work With
You or a loved one may be experiencing health problems or a new diagnosis, relationship problems, or life transitions like marriage or divorce. Perhaps you're navigating grief and loss, feeling overwhelmed by caregiving responsibilities, or noticing consistent patterns in your personal or work life that have you feeling stuck. Maybe it's something else entirely that's drawn you to seek therapy and self-exploration.
Whatever the cause, it's often from great discomfort that we grow—and therapy can support that process by providing perspective, compassion, and evidence-based care.

What We'll Work Toward
My goal is to create a space where you can find footing in your inner self, see more clearly the events and experiences that have shaped you, feel grounded and confident in your ability to cope with stress, and show up for your life and loved ones in a way that feels consistent with your values and boundaries.
My Approach, Expertise and Methods
My Approach
My style is authentic, collaborative, and practical. I'm strengths-based in my work, and I often assign between-session "homework" because real change happens in your everyday life, not just in our sessions. Laughter is always welcomed—it's good medicine. My ultimate goal is to create a safe, non-judgmental, and compassionate space where we can do meaningful work together.

My Training & Expertise
I earned my Doctorate of Psychology from Pacific University in Oregon in 2012. I completed an APA-Accredited Internship and Fellowship at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center, with a focus on primary care and clinical health psychology.
I'm a health psychologist by training, which means I specialize in helping people cope with the way illness touches every aspect of life—not just physical health. When something feels wrong in our body, anxiety, depression, grief, and fear are common responses that can impact our relationships, our sense of self, and our daily functioning. Fortunately, there are several effective treatments to address these understandable reactions.

I also have specialized competency in geropsychology—providing psychological services to older adults. This includes helping individuals adjust to declining health and shifting roles within the family, exploring life review and existential questions, and improving communication with caregivers and loved ones. I'm especially passionate about supporting caregivers themselves, who are often navigating impossible decisions, competing demands, and limited resources while trying to care for someone they love. This season of life can also bring complex family dynamics to the surface, and therapy can offer grounding support to steady that turbulence.

Treatment Methods
I'm trained in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), interpersonal therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy (values-based work), trauma-informed care, biofeedback, attachment theory, existential therapies, and mindfulness-based interventions. After we get to know one another and I learn more about your symptoms and goals, I'll educate you about these approaches as we create a treatment plan together. All of my interventions are grounded in research but tailored to your specific needs. Please see the resources section for more information about these approaches.

What to Expect
If you think my approach may be a good fit for your needs, please complete the Contact Form below. We'll set up a time for a 15-minute free consultation call.

The intake process and early sessions will focus on learning your story, gathering a history of the issues you’d like to address, and exploring your current stressors and coping skills. We will then create a treatment plan, which is essentially a roadmap for our work together. We’ll also discuss the number of visits I’d recommend based upon your needs (this can always be modified), as well as how frequently we should meet to help meet your goals. For some individuals, brief therapy is the best course, which may include anywhere from 4-12 sessions. For others, the process will take longer.

At Find Your North, I strive to create a safe, inclusive space where you can explore your deeper self, express yourself authentically, and find what truly matters. Please note, that while I specialize in treating mental health conditions as they relate to medical conditions, you do not need to currently be experiencing a health concern in order to be a good fit for my practice. Mind/body interventions can be woven into our work together as needed.

Required Notice:
Under Section 2799B-6 of the Public Health Service Act (No Surprises Act), health care providers and health care facilities are required to provide a good faith estimate of expected charges for items and services to individuals who are not enrolled in a plan or coverage or a Federal health care program, or not seeking to file a claim with their plan or coverage both orally and in writing, upon request or at the time of scheduling health
care items and service. Find Your North is currently considered an out-of-network provider and therefore a Good Faith Estimate will be created and reviewed prior to the completion of an intake.
What is a Good Faith Estimate?
A good faith estimate (GFE) is a detailed breakdown of expected services and their costs. Providers must furnish GFEs to uninsured or self-pay
patients. The GFE must include the patient’s details, the provider’s information, a list of expected services with relevant codes, estimated
charges, and disclaimers about potential discrepancies between the estimated and final charges.
